History

Some club history.

When the club started in1944 it set up agreements with local landowners to allow them to fish. Here is a letter from 1946 to to a Miss Whitehead at Ellergill Farm negotiating one of the agreements. Courtesy of B Bainbridge

Cups are no longer awarded in the interest of sustainabilty of fish stocks

  • The John Bond Cup – awarded to any angler who weighs in the heaviest Brown Trout caught on fly before the end of April
  • The A Winspear Shield(Salmon)
  • The Presidents Cup – awarded to any angler who weighs in the heaviest Brown Trout caught before 1st September
  • The George Brewer Memorial Cup – awarded to the local angler who weighs in the heaviest Brown Trout caught before the 1st September
  • The Harvey Ellis Challenge Cup – awarded to the local angler who weighs in the second heaviest Brown Trout caught before 1st September
  • The John Wilson Cup – awarded to a local angler under 16 years of age for the heaviest Brown Trout caught before 1st September
  • The Len Clark Salmon Cup – awarded to the local angler catching the heaviest Salmon
  • The Junction Hotel Shield – awarded to the season permit holders ONLY for the heaviest Brown Trout caught before 1st September
