Welcome to Tebay Anglers Homepage.
Tebay Anglers was founded in 1944 and originally met in the Junction Hotel, now converted to flats. The Club's waters cover some 15 miles of Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon fishing along the River Lune, and its tributaries, from Kelleth to the Sedbergh end of Fair Mile. The migratory trout normally reach the area sometime in June, and salmon generally appear from August.
Our waters are easy to find as Tebay is situated adjacent to Junction 38 on the M6 and is 12 miles North of Kendal, 12 miles South-West of Kirkby Stephen on the A685. Whilst in fairly easy reach of Greater Manchester and Merseyside, there are numerous nearby hotels and B+Bs if you wish to take a holiday with your fishing visit.
The source of the Lune is at Newbiggin-on-Lune, some 7 miles North-East of Tebay. The river is fed by numerous fell streams. Changes in flow and depth can be quite dramatic depending on conditions. The Club's stretch can pose a wide range of challenges to the angler. If conditions prove too difficult, you can always try some stillwater fishing at the nearby Bessy Beck Trout Fishery.
The Club operates in conjunction with, and is now a Corporate Member of, Lune Rivers Trust (LRT) to conserve, protect and improve the wildlife habitat in and along its stretch. Committee members can regularly be found mending fences, protecting the banks from erosion or monitoring for pollution. Committee members are also empowered to protect the fishing from poaching. Thanks to LRT, you can view the state of the river on a new web cam, which is sited near to Lowgill, so it gives a good idea of conditions on the Upper Lune. Visit www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/live-webcams then choose North, Lune and Firbank.
Tebay Anglers holds its Annual Dinner & Presentation Night in Tebay Sports & Social Club on the first Saturday in March each year. The evening includes an Auction and the Club's AGM. Permit Holders are welcome to attend, though they cannot vote at the AGM. Anyone wishing to attend should notify the Secretary at least 14 days prior.
